Nintendo seems to be on its villain arc as of late. First, the company announced its prices for the Nintendo Switch 2, which was not received well by the general public. Now, the game maker has updated its user agreement.
What's in this update? You ask. Well, it says that if you try to hack your Switch or Switch 2 system, use emulators, or make similar modifications, Nintendo can "suspend your access to any or all Nintendo Account Services, in our sole discretion and without prior notice to you," essentially bricking your system as you need a Nintendo account to access most of Nintendo's offerings.
This change was first noticed and reported by Game File.
Gamers are at odds about this update as Nintendo, historically, doesn't make its old games easy to play as they don't carry many of them even in their digital store. So many rely on emulators to fill the gap. But now, doing so may put your system at serious risk.
Nintendo has not provided any clarification as to how they would enforce this rule or if/how a player could restore their Nintendo account in the event they were suspended.
