WEBTOON is already making waves ahead of the new year. The Korea-based comic company announced its plan for 2026 which includes three large pieces:

  1. Improved creator support
  2. An in-person residency based in LA
  3. A VIP recognition program where the prize is a trip to their Korea headquarters

What is WEBTOON updating about its creator support?

The following will launch in early 2026, completing rollout throughout the year.

For new creators

New creators will also have the opportunity to take advantage of digital Open Houses where they can meet with WEBTOON's Creator Care and Editorial staff to answer all their questions.

There will also be a redesigned Creator Resource Hub which will offer video series for tips, tricks, and success stories.

For CANVAS creators

WEBTOON promises increased monetization opportunities for independent, non-contracted series authors, known as CANVAS creators, to which specific details they have not expounded on as of yet. A new dashboard will also appear that will "make it easier to understand their series performances."

For WEBTOON original creators

Contracted creators can expect increased convention and event support to help them attend cons in order to increase their fanbases. For the first time ever, this will also include events in Europe and Southeast Asia (previously this was locked to the US, Korea, and Japan markets).

WEBTOON Creator Residency Program

Twice a year, English-language service WEBTOON original creators may also be invited to a two-week in-person workshop in Los Angeles, California.

Residency participants will work closely with WEBTOON editors in dedicated story-building sessions, attend development workshops, and meet with teams across the company for a deeper look at WEBTOON’s offerings and ecosystem. Designed to give creators the time, focus, and hands-on support they need to refine their craft, WEBTOON will hold two Creator Residencies in 2026

Applications for the first session will open on December 18, 2025. You can apply via the WEBTOON Creator Portal.

WEBTOON VIP Recognition program provides a Korea trip​

Select creators will be invited to WEBTOON's Korean headquarters to see the "home of webcomics" as well as "meet industry leaders, and connect with global talent."
