Over the weekend, rumors have circled the web saying Star Fox will be a part of the Nintendo Switch 2's launch lineup.
What is Star Fox?
Star Fox first debuted in 1993 for the Super Nintendo as a forward-scrolling 3D rail shooter. Led by their captain Fox McCloud, the gaggle of anthropomorphic animals protect the galaxy from the evil empire trying to take over. It's a cult classic (and I'm one of its fan girls).
What are the Star Fox rumors saying?
- Star Fox will be developed internally by Nintendo's team (a rarity)
- The game will be a prequel
- Online multiplayer options
- It will run at 60 fps
I dug and dug but, quite frankly, the primary source I was able to find for these rumors were, "Trust me bro." Some outlets are citing blogger Zippo, who is known for providing game leaks – but their information tends to be hit or miss.
The one truly credible lead I found is Nintendo game developer Takaya Imamura.
One Star Fox fan made an X post with an image of the game's crew and the caption 'Hopefully with the Switch 2 we can finally see them again." Imamura shared the post with his own caption "きっと会える" which loosely translates to "We'll meet for sure," implying that the game will indeed be included on Nintendo Switch 2.

If this were to come true, this would mark Star Fox's first game in 9 years, following up Star Fox Zero which was released for the Wii U.
When will we know more about Star Fox and the Nintendo Switch 2?
The Nintendo Switch 2 does not have an official release date yet but more details will be provided during the April 2, 2025 Nintendo Direct. Make sure you're subscribed to my free cozy gaming newsletter so you can know the moment they share the big date.
