Who said cozy games can't have any action? The Rabbit Haul is a cute flat-art game where you play a rabbit defending your crops from raccoons (or, trash pandas, as the game refers to them). It will be available on Steam and on Nintendo Switch.

As with most tower defense games, it's easy to learn, but takes strategy to master. You'll need to strategically plant your fire flowers, your sprinklers, your crops, your everything to build the best defense system that will protect your haul from the evil bandits.

Outside of the actual defense fighting, there is a store where you can unlock upgrades using in-game coins – sans microtransactions – and tasks to help rebuild the destroyed town (not available in the demo).

You'll have 11 raids that you have to survive. In-between the raids, you can unlock upgrades and fix up the town in preparation for your upcoming battles.

Each run through is different, with virtually an infinite amount of playthrough options. Characters you fight will drop different weapons, different kinds of enemies will appear (one of my runs had a magical wizard) and you can, of course, reconfigure your tower. This setup keeps the game from getting stale.

I was disappointed, however, that I didn't get to bring my setup with me into future rounds. To be fair, the demo ended after I managed to survive my second time playing through the 11 waves, so I'm not sure if you do get to keep your setup when you survive. I may have to give this one more playthrough to be sure.

Thank you for the review key, Caldera Interactive, The Rabbit Haul was a blast. And this comes from someone who traditionally does not enjoy tower defense games. Between the artwork and the refreshing creativity, I found myself having plenty of fun in no time. This is the kind of game I would buy and play again and again, never feeling burnt out.

The Rabbit Haul Demo on Steam
The Rabbit Haul is a roguelite farming and tower defense game that challenges you to grow crops, build symbiotic defenses, and protect your haul from the thieving Trash Panda Posse as you rebuild your hometown one run at a time!

It's important to note that I played the demo in easy mode (default) but there are two more difficulty settings you could try. Interested? Download the free demo from Steam.

I'd give The Rabbit Haul 4/5 stars and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy game with a light-hearted challenge.

An exact release date has not been shared at this time though devs plan to release it in 2026.
