On March 21, Game Informer Editor-in-Chief Matt Miller posted an open letter to the Game Informer website.

"I was devastated last summer when Game Informer was shuttered by our prior parent company, and so was the rest of our team. Not only did we really relish working together, but we also thought we were doing something valuable in contributing to the conversation around the gaming hobby," he wrote.

The magazine's sudden shuttering last summer shook the gaming world, as Game Informer had been an industry staple for decades. So what brought the magazine back?

According to Miller, Gunzilla Games, most known for their battle royale title Off The Grid, bought the rights to Game Informer and brought the entire staff back. But they did insist on some changes.

"From the start, the new owners insisted on the idea of Game Informer remaining an independent editorial outlet; they felt just as strongly as our team did that the only path forward was with an editorial group that made 100 percent of the decisions around what we cover and how we do so, without any influence from them or anyone else."

To keep with that vision, Game Informer now operates under Game Informer Inc.

The future of Game Informer

Miller says that game informer will talk about impactful games, creators, and players. The magazine will also have expanded membership and subscription benefits.
