Before you read – let's pour one out for all of the forgotten Neopets that are most def starving. (Shout out to my Kougra which 10-year-old me named KevyKevKevin after my brother.)

Now, let's take a slice of this giant omelette of information. But in order to talk about that, we gotta talk about this.
Neopets is celebrating 25 years
One of the forerunners of online gaming in yesteryears, Neopets was a safe haven for many Millennials. It was originally founded in 1999 by two college students. It quickly gained massed popularity and took over the virtual pet game genre.
It even had a PlayStation 2 game release in 2005.
Somewhere along the way, Millennials grew up, got gaming systems, and left Neopets behind as JavaScript-heavy browsers phased out. Many assumed that, with the death of the JavaScript era, Neopets had went the way of the dodo – but the site has kept going all this time.
And that brings us to present day, where the superfans have kept Neopets alive. Where premium memberships thrive. Where Neopets swag and goodies, like a Monopoly Neopets collab, await.
Neopets teasing new species
The official social accounts teased the drop with a sneak peek at the creatures foot, paired with a caption saying,
"Strange and wild rumours have been afoot in Neopia. We’re here to tell you not to worry, Neopians, there’s no way there’s a new Neo- wait, what?
Really??
Are.. are you certain?."

Based on the clue, it is believed the new creature will be a Varwolf – a design that was originally released as an April Fools joke but Neopians fell deep in love with.

This seems like it may be true as a placeholder for the Varwolf was included on the customization menu before quickly being removed.

When will the new Neopet be released?
I'm still securing exact dates, but I do know that the new Neopet will be released to premium subscribers first and rolled out to general users at a later time.
Happy quarter century, Neopets!
